Job Description: Adjunct professor. Teach ongoing semester courses in History of Interiors for the Interior Design program and introductory courses in Art History and Non-Western Art History as needed using an online platform. If locally available for face-to-face work, that is an additional consideration. A PhD degree is preferred in the area of Art History with appropriate course work for history of Interior Design or doctoral degree in relevant areas, along with survey courses in western and non-western art may be considered with required experience. Teaching experience with online platforms is preferred along with a record of scholarly professional activity. Applicant must be skilled in appropriate digital technology for teaching. This position is to fill an immediate vacancy for History of Interiors I in the fall 2019.
The mission of Converse College, founded in 1889, is the liberal education of undergraduate women in a residential setting. Converse expands its mission by offering graduate degrees and other programs for women and men. The Department of Art and Design is located within the School of the Arts and comprised of exceptional multi-disciplined programs in art and interior design. Fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), it is housed in the Milliken Fine Arts Building. At 30,000 square feet, there are designated classrooms in art history, ceramics, sculpture, photography, printmaking, digital media, painting, drawing, art education, art therapy, and interior design. Our online platform is Moodle, which is supported by a director and comprehensive campus technology department.
