Converse College invites applications for a new tenure-track position in Mathematics and Data Science within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the assistant professor level to begin in August 2019. Our department supports majors and minors in Mathematics, minors in Computer Science, and aims to develop new courses in Data Science and Analytics. The ideal candidate will contribute to our existing course offerings in Mathematics as well as design and teach introductory Data Science and Analytics courses. This position provides a unique opportunity to shape and develop a data science minor, track, or concentration within an active and growing department. The teaching load is typically three courses per semester plus one course in January term. Additional responsibilities include contributing to college's general education program, advising students, further developing the mathematics major, continued professional development, and providing service to the department, college, and community.


Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field by August 15, 2019. Candidates with a master’s degree and significant industry experience are also invited to apply. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts setting and provide evidence of excellence in teaching and research potential. Selected candidates must complete a background check that is satisfactory to the College and be qualified to teach in the US.
