Graduate Assistant

Job Description

The Career Development Graduate Assistant works closely with the Director of Internships and Career Services to assist in the planning and implementation of career development programming and services for undergraduate students. Responsibilities include:

  • Publish and promote job & internship postings on Handshake, the new online career management system for the Center for Career Development
  • Actively update Handshake which includes approving new employers and job postings, posting campus events, and updating resources for students
  • Responsible for Campus Paid Internship Program, collecting time sheets from on campus interns and completing pay requests from Payroll department in a timely manner
  • Create advertisements for career development workshops, events, and services to the campus community
  • Engage and connect with students via social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Help plan and coordinate major events such as Graduate School Week, Internship Expo and Road Trips to the Real World
  • Coordinate with Career Peers (undergraduate student workers) on events
  • Engage with employers to promote job and internship opportunities
  • Critique resumes and cover letters and conduct mock interviews as needed
  • Interact with student groups and organizations as assigned
  • Research creative career development programs and resources
  • Assist with office projects such as creating and improving handouts, copies, running campus errands as requested
  • Staff front desk, when staff member is unavailable
  • Complete assigned project areas and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in graduate program at Converse College during 2019-2020 academic year
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Great at working on a team and in a collaborative environment
  • Takes initiative and proactive in opportunities
  • Reliable and demonstrates a strong work ethic
  • Creative, positive and enthusiastic

Compensation Package

  • Stipend paid in 9 monthly payments by the Business Office, total of $2,000.00
  • Furnished shared apartment (third week of August – second week of May, purchase of meal plan required)
  • Scholarship for up to 9 credit hours during the academic year (divided as you wish across Fall term, Jan term, and Spring term)
